Taste of Downtown

Well, I'm ready for taste on Saturday. I'll be live at our downtown studio on 5th from 10 to 2. I plan on trying the blackened salmon from Bentoh's, homemade chips from Maldaners, saffron ice cream from Garden of Eat'n and perhaps a Sebastian's vodka lemon shake up. Lots of other good stuff, check out the menu here.

That vodka shakeup does sound good. "The Taste of Springfield" is a really good idea, but - as somebody who's been to the event three out of past four years - I'm not sure that the city has really bought into it? I should say, it's been kinda lame. Not sure people want to go downtown for the express purpose of eating state fair food? Betcha there'd be more traffic if they had it in White Oaks parking lot.

This is Taste of Downtown, though. It's specifically to promote the downtown restaurants. There's gourmet stuff too, like Salmon, ribs, ethnic foods, etc.

The Taste of Springfield-
Is it a waste?
People gulping down food,
In all their haste;
Spending money,
Fighting the heat,
Arguing with vendors,
It can't be beat;
I'd rather be in my yard,
Under the sprinkler,
Watching "Happy Days,"
with Henry Winkler;
He's the Fonz,
He knows how to stay cool,
But to go to the Taste,
One must be a fool!
